A quintessential New England town nestled along the coast, Rockport Massachusetts’ cobblestone streets and endless coastlines make it a favorite among vacationers. While it’s an attractive location to visit any month of the year, winter is truly a magical time in Rockport.
Watch as Santa cruises along in a lobster boat, admire the light-strewn store fronts along Bearskin Neck, or indulge in a chai and pastry from Helmut’s Strudel. If you want to book a trip during the winter months, there’s no better place than Addison Choate.
A family-owned Boutique Hotel, Addison Choate is the perfect blend of modern luxury and historic, New England charm. The warmth of the hotel is noticeable immediately upon entering, as you approach a cottage-like building with a wrapping veranda.
Wooden floors and pops of color paired with plush sofas and quirky finishings. Used as common spaces, you’ll find a maze of rooms on the first floor filled with the coziness you can expect from a family home. The mellow atmosphere is a welcome hideaway from the brisk, New England weather.
Even in the off season, you can find guests relaxing by the fireplace with a book or cooking a hearty meal in the shared kitchen space.
Limited rooms on the property make for a truly intimate guest experience. Each space has its own quirky personality, reflected in its interiors and design choices. Rooms feature plush bedding, patterned carpeting, vibrant paintings, and marble bathrooms. During my stay, I got to experience both the Dog Watch Suite and Even Keel.
The Dog Watch is a spacious two-floor suite, perfect for a longer staycation. The unit has its own front entrance, and a back door which opens into the main-house kitchen area. The first floor with its full kitchen, array of comfortable seating, and floating island is the space for unwinding after a long day exploring the Rockport beaches.
Everything you may need to whip up a nice meal is at your hands. On a sunny day, sit yourself on the hanging basket chair and immerse yourself in the calming atmosphere surrounding the property. Upstairs you’ll find a cloud-like king bed, subtle bedding, with pops of bright colors surrounding the space.
Quirky paintings and furnishings give the room a nice touch. The glass covered shower is stocked with Beekman products for guests to enjoy.
Even Keel is a smaller option, ideal for a one-two night stay. Upon entering, low-beamed ceilings and lace-trimmed window hangings make the room feel intimate and cozy. An ensuite bathroom space is attached, fit with marble furnishings and a clean-white aesthetic.
End the evening with a soak in the full-sized tub, and wrap yourself in the complimentary soft-robes provided. Even Keel is located inside the main building, so the common-space living room and kitchen areas are just a few steps away.
Addison Choate goes above and beyond to ensure guests feel like family during their stay. Breakfast can be made-to-order the night before, and will be waiting for you in the lobby-area the next morning!
Have your choice of pastries, fresh juices, fruit, and tea/coffee options. You’ll see the owners around the property, so be sure to say hello, ask for recommendations, and have a little chat- they’re more than willing to help!
There’s never truly an off season in Rockport. Idyllic both in the winter and summer months, be sure to book your stay well in advance if you want the chance to experience the warmth of the Addison Choate property while you’re here!
